What is Sports Massage & Soft Tissue Therapy?
A manual manipulative and rehabilitation therapy for the treatment of health ailments
and soft tissue injury.
The purpose of sports massage and soft tissue therapy is to prevent and treat injury
often associated with bad posture, muscle imbalances, rehabilitate existing musculoskeletal
problems, reduce muscle pain, correct dysfunction and relieve general aches and
discomfort caused by repetitive environment, physical and mental stress.
Do I need to be “Sporty” to benefit from this type of treatment?
Despite the title "Sports Massage", anyone - including more sedentary people - will
benefit from this type of therapy. Sports massage is a concept rather than a specific
technique and is beneficial for anyone with a variety of abnormalities caused by
either physical environmental factors. My treatments tend to be deep and may incorporate
many soft tissue manipulation techniques listed below:
- Neuromuscular techniques
- Muscle energy techniques
- Positional release
techniques
- Soft tissue release
- Trigger point therapy
- Lymph drainage
-
Postural assessment
- Rehabilitation exercises
These techniques, combined with deep massage can alleviate pain and dysfunction and enhance physical & sports performance and general well-being.
Sports massage has many physical, physiological and psychological benefits - these include:
- Increased circulation which improves healing and rate of healing
- Removes muscle waste
- Restores nutrition to muscles
- Breaks down scar tissue and adhesions
- Releases excessive muscle tension
- Pain reduction
- Prevents secondary problems
- Restores mobility and range of movement to joints and muscles
- Enhances and extends physical performance
- Promotes relaxation
